4 teams per conference or 6? We're currently set for 4, but we don't have to change anything to bump it to 6.
Thoughts?

The rules state that 8 teams make the playoffs. It should stay that way.
Obviously the majority will vote for more teams to make the playoffs because it's in the interest of more teams.
I don't like seeing rule changes after the season begins, especially this late in the year.

I don't like seeing rule changes after the season begins, especially this late in the year. Did we ever put the playoff rule to a vote? That's the only reason I bring it up now. I can't find any evidence that we did, and I don't like unilateral decisions in this league. I agree that a change of this magnitude is not smart to make toward the end of the season. I just wanted to put it out there to drum up some conversation. If a majority feel they would like more teams to make the playoffs, but we should wait until next year to institute it, I'd be all for that. I just look at how close teams are right now, and it'd be a shame to exclude some very good teams. But I want this discussion to happen.

I totally agree but I just feel that it should have happened before the season started; not this late. I think making changes this late is worse than a unilateral decision.

A change should be proposed for next season and implemented prior to the beginning of the season. It will probably cost me a playoff spot this season as my team is competing in the strong western conference. Oh well - it is what it is.

Are you sure its set up to be four teams from each conference? From the looks of the espn playoff matchups preview, It's just the top 8 teams period

From the looks of the espn playoff matchups preview, It's just the top 8 teams period ESPN doesn't allow you to specify a conference playoff bracket. After the regular season is over, and before the playoffs begin, I just go into the playoff bracket it and fix it.

From the looks of the espn playoff matchups preview, It's just the top 8 teams period I would be on board with having the top-8 teams make the playoffs this year (regardless of conference). As flames mentioned, that's what the rules state. And it's hard to argue that's not the most fair way to decide who advances for now. Then as Kots said, we can reassess in the off-season (where I anticipate we'd agree on top-6 from each conference making it, and making sure it's in the rules before the season begins).

Actually the rules do say top 4 from each conference. I just noticed ESPN's playoff preview didn't show that

With a West and East in each? Or is it NBA West and ABA West in one conference, then NBA East and ABA East in the other conference?
