The Golden State Warriors would like to request to relocate to Cincinnati, Ohio.
Basketball has always been engraved in the Queen City's culture. The annual rivalry between the University of Cincinnati Bearcats and the Xavier Musketeers, known as the Crosstown Shootout, fuels the basketball passion of the city. Gone are the days of Bob Huggins led teams with the likes of Kenyon Martin, Steve Logan, Leonard Stokes, Immanuel McElroy, Field Williams, Erick Hicks, and James White. The city, which is going through a renaissance, has pumped hundreds of millions of dollars into renovating the downtown area, the Banks and previously crime stricken areas, like OTR. More people are moving to the city and more out of staters are heading to this city on the Ohio River.
The Greater-Cincinnati area has a population of 2.1M. Dayton, whose metropolitan avenue boasts a population of 850,000, is a 45 minute drive to the north, would also benefit from having a professional basketball team just down the road. People flock from Dayton, the hills of Kentucky and the suburbs of Cincinnati to enjoy the newly gentrified downtown area for Reds and Bengals games already. With the city's addition of the new rail car, getting downtown will now be even easier. The tax dollars and revenue that an NBA team would bring to this city would propel growth even faster. People will pay to see LeBron come to town and a rivalry with the Cavs will make this all that much better.
The city has been longing for a team to return since the ABA, Cincinnati Royals left back in 1972. Cincinnati has been without a professional basketball team for 43 years! It's time to change that!
The city has the Bengals (NFL) and the Reds (MLB) and even hosted the 2015 MLB All-Star Game this season. With a growing populous and more young people moving to the city, the next crowning achievement would be to bring back a professional basketball franchise.
Over the next year, ownership intends on building a legitimate title contender. Their GM already has 3 rings on his hand already; which leaves little doubt that he will be going for a fourth. Steph Cury and Klay Thompson want to bring hope and excitement to a very underrated basketball city.
We plan on being in the title hunt for the foreseeable future -- at least the next 3-5 years. We have a proven owner/GM who knows what it takes to get this team on top.
If approved by the league, the team will go by their old ABA name, the Cincinnati Royals. They will boast red, white, and blue as their team colors. Mascot will revert to the original as well.
