Sorry, missed all those details you needed to submit for the name change. Here is my official request for a name and relocation change for the Orlando Magic. Since the Magic have never won a championship in Orlando, and all of the craziest news stories around the US usually come out of Florida, we've decided as an organization that it's just bad mojo to remain in the city and want to apply for immediate relocation and name change. The Orlando Magic would like to move to Flint, Michigan and become the Flint Tropics. Although at first glance Flint would seem like a strange place to bring an NBA franchise, the cult following that has amassed for the team and city following the Will Ferrel classic, "Semi Pro," has us relocating to an already established fan base. With our newly hired CEO, Jackie Moon, at the helm, we expect to have some of the greatest fan giveaways and promotional events in the league including free corn dogs for the whole crowd when the team scores 125 points and when our own Jackie Moon will wrestle a live bear. We expect to be competing at a higher level than we were in Orlando from day 1 in Flint with our new secret weapon play on offense, the alley-oop. It's not out of the realm of possibility at all that we can be competing for fourth place as soon as this season! Our new team colors are below with our CEO Jackie Moon displaying them proudly. And the new team slogan is "Let's Get Tropical!"

I know this skirts one of the relocation rules as far as infrastructure, but I am willing to overlook that in this one case.
Also Flint Tropics was the name of my rec league team a few years back.
What say yous commishes?

I understand Flint isn't a major city, my counter argument is that the buzz that would follow the team because of how funny the movie was, plus the fact that we don't have an owner for the Pistons in this league, makes me anticipating that the Flint Tropics would not only be one of the most popular new teams, but would easily absorb all of the Detroit fan base seeing as how Flint is not too far from Detroit and we don't have a Pistons in this league. All of a sudden Flint becomes a major US city with more fans migrating to follow the team and the crazy antics of Jackie Moon, benefiting not only the organization, but the entire economic area of Flint and the surrounding cities. Plus isn't most of the money in the NBA from the collective revenue sharing from our tv deals?

Real life Orlando Magic CEO stated last year: "We did not make a profit last year. We have not made a profit in over a decade. That's a product primarily of the DeVos' approach that they're going to continue to reinvest in the business and continue to reinvest in the product on the floor. But to assert that we made an operating profit last year is completely inaccurate."
It's not like they're making a lot of money in Orlando, and fortunately I don't actually have to worry about real life revenue, so isn't just the story line and proximity to Detroit good enough? This is just fantasy basketball, I'm just trying to have some fun with it

After thinking this one over, I'm going to open it up to public vote. Personally, I'm against it. I don't want to be the fun police, and I realize this is a fantasy league, but I think we all wanted to keep a sense of realism (no matter how impossible that may be). Flint is not a realistic option, from my point of view. Currently, the smallest market in the NBA is Salt Lake City, with a metropolitan population of just over 1.1 million. Flint's metropolitan population is 412,000. There's no arena in the area capable of hosting a minor league team, let alone a professional sports franchise.
As much as I loved Semi-Pro (seriously underrated), I doubt that movie is going to suddenly make people in the area real life Flint Tropics fans. I certainly don't see how it would make people drive over an hour from Detroit to see a game.
That said, it will be the league that determines whether they want a team in Flint or not.
